It's Kind of Technical

Righteousness

Here are a couple of snippets from today’s gospel reading from Matthew 9:9-13:

“Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do.”

“I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”

There are times when I really need to hear those words. Sometimes when I feel like I’m moving closer to God, I have a tendency to start noticing how far away everyone else seems. I start to feel righteous. The reality is though, if I’m feeling righteous, I’m definitely not! I have to remind myself that Christ also said:

“If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.”

Today’s gospel reading was a good, solid reminder that we are all sinners. We should be humble and not judgmental.
